The Sunday Reset for Busy School Weeks
School weeks can get chaotic fast. Between homework, sports, lunches, practices, appointments, and figuring out what's for dinner, Monday morning can feel overwhelming before it even begins. Taking a little time on Sunday to reset can make the entire week run more smoothly.
You don't need to spend your whole Sunday preparing for Monday. Focus on a few tasks that will make the biggest difference.
Check the Family Calendar
Look at everything happening during the upcoming week, including practices, games, appointments, school events, and meetings. Knowing which days will be busiest helps you plan ahead instead of being surprised Wednesday afternoon by something you forgot.
Plan Your Dinners
You don't need an elaborate meal plan. Simply decide what's for dinner each night.
Save your easiest meals for the busiest evenings and plan meals that require more prep for nights when you'll actually be home. I also like having at least one emergency freezer meal available in case the week doesn't go according to plan.
Prep School Snacks
Restock your after-school snack station and grab-and-go snacks for practices. Having everything ready makes busy afternoons much easier.
Get Ahead on Laundry
Make sure everyone has clean school clothes, uniforms, sports gear, socks, and anything else they'll need during the week. There's nothing worse than discovering the soccer uniform is dirty 20 minutes before practice.
Reset the Kitchen
Start Monday with an empty sink and clean counters. Toss old leftovers, check what's in the refrigerator, and make sure lunch-packing essentials are easy to find.
Prep for Monday Morning
Sunday night, take a few minutes to:
- Lay out clothes.
- Pack backpacks.
- Fill water bottles.
- Prep lunches.
- Put shoes by the door.
- Make sure devices are charged.
A few minutes at night can save a surprising amount of time the next morning.
Do a 15-Minute House Reset
Don't deep clean the entire house. Set a timer and have everyone help tidy the spaces you use the most. Put away clutter, straighten the living room, clear the kitchen counters, and get everything back where it belongs.
Don't Forget to Actually Enjoy Sunday
A Sunday reset should make your life easier, not turn Sunday into another workday. Once you've tackled the essentials, stop.
Watch a movie, make an easy dinner, spend time outside, or simply relax before another busy week begins.
The goal of a Sunday reset isn't to have your entire week perfectly organized. It's to take care of a few things now that your Monday-morning self will be grateful you handled.
Even 30 minutes of preparation can make the difference between starting the week feeling completely behind and feeling like you actually have a plan.
